About this Quiz

The RMS Titanic is one of the most famous ships in history, known for its tragic sinking on its maiden voyage in 1912. But before its ill-fated journey, the Titanic was a marvel of construction. Built by the shipyard Harland and Wolff in Belfast, the Titanic's construction began in 1909 and took approximately 3 years to complete. The ship was a massive feat of engineering, with a length of 882.5 feet and a width of 92.5 feet. It was constructed using carbon steel and had a total of 29 boilers. The Titanic was designed to be the pinnacle of luxury and technology, with a total capacity of 2435 passengers and crew, and a propulsion system powered by a steam turbine. Despite its tragic end, the construction of the Titanic remains a significant event in maritime history. The Titanic was part of the White Star Line, a prominent British shipping company in the early 20th century. It was one of three Olympic-class ocean liners, the others being the RMS Britannic and the RMS Olympic. The construction of these ships represented the height of technological achievement at the time, with the Titanic being the largest and most luxurious of the three. The ship was equipped with four funnels, although only three were functional - the fourth was added purely for aesthetic reasons. The Titanic was also designed with safety in mind, with plans originally including 48 lifeboats, although this number was reduced to 20 in the final design. Despite these safety measures, the Titanic's sinking led to significant changes in maritime safety regulations.
