About this Quiz
The RMS Titanic, a British luxury passenger liner, sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in the early morning hours of 15 April 1912, after striking an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City. The Titanic was the largest ship afloat at the time she entered service and was the second of three Olympic-class ocean liners operated by the White Star Line. She was built by the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast. Thomas Andrews, her architect, died in the disaster. The sinking of the Titanic resulted in the deaths of more than 1,500 people, making it one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history. The ship was carrying 2,224 people, including crew, and only had lifeboats for 1,178 people. The lack of lifeboats has been attributed to outdated maritime safety regulations. The survivors were rescued by the RMS Carpathia. The sinking of the Titanic has had a lasting impact and has been the subject of much research and inquiry.
